So, I'm just a guy that likes cool things and can't speak to all the technical specs of this device. However, let me tell you my experience. Out of the box, it was plug/play with brilliant and crisp picture. The speakers are great and the HDMI input is 1-2-3 easy. But the cool factor is 10/10. My teen daughters were going to their friends houses the night I turned it on to test it out on an off white textured wall. The first impression for all of us was incredible. When my daughters saw it, they asked things like; "Is this ours?" and "This is so cool, what is this?" and they stayed home to watch movies with their mom and dad. Let me repeat; my teens stayed home to watch movies with us. If that's not incentive enough, I don't know what is. This unit is 100% awesome from start to finish. The DVD player is great, speakers are great, HDMI input is easy to use......I mean, this is a plug and play device that is 100% everything it is said to be and more. You will NOT be wasting money with this unit. Worth every single penny. Jason

Moviemate 85HD

By Young

Comments about Epson MovieMate 85HD:

I bought this second moviemate projector to teach religion classes and it is well suited for my purpose. I can play movies with sounds (2 speakers 10 watts each) or do slide presentation with this machine. It has HDMI, VGA, and regular video video/audio inputs. The remote control is easy to use and you can project over 15 feet without picture degradation. EPSON is a reliable brand and I highly recommended it if you have a need for this machine.

    Comments about Epson MovieMate 85HD:

I was confused at first, this being my first purchase of a projector. After reading reviews and specs I was worried about aspect and how far to place unit from wall, etc. Turns out it was simple, just plugged it in and followed quick setup and this picture looked good even on white sheet on the wall. DVD plays easy and I hooked it up to a 3 terabyte hard drive with the HDMI cable and it played the movies easily, GREAT Product, Pricey but you get what you pay for.

i think the moviemate 72 that i have is much better. all you have to do is put the new lamp in the old m/m 72 and let go. the led screen on the m/m 72 is a plus for time of the movie and chapters..also the lens adjustments need to be on the m/m85...you might want to think about these things...this is my 3rd or 4th moviemate and looking for the 85 with all the things that the 72 has....don't omit the good things that the 72 has!!! 35/70 movieman

          The MovieMate

          By Eyepoppins

          from Boise

          Comments about Epson MovieMate 85HD:

I bought this as a birthday present for my wife who loves sitting on our covered patio. We walked around the corner on her birthday to see a 120 inch screen playing her favorite movie. The MovieMate is the perfect portable indoor/outdoor solution for big screen movies. Speakers are good enough right out of the box. Keep in mind this thing cast a picture nearly equal to the distance it sits from the screen. So if you want a 10 foot diag. pic, place approx. 10 feet back. Its that simple and because the bulb doesnt have to throw the light so far the colors are great. I tried it at 10Am and its was a little washed out but still watchable.

How far from the screen will the projector realistically throw an image. My screen is about 30 feet from where the projector will be.

              A:

You can be 30' back but the further back you take the the bigger the image will be. From 30' your diagonal size options are 269" up to 322". If your screen is smaller then you need to move the projector closer to it.

Yes it can! Additionally, from what I measured, it looks like it needs at least a 16 ft wide screen to accommodate the projection from 30 ft. For such a big area, I would recommend auxiliary speakers since the sound system is extremely weak on the unit.

The built in speakers are pretty weak. They are sufficient for an indoor space but I would recommend added speakers for outside. I use my projector for a small, intimate outdoor setting in a redwood tree grove without additional speakers and it's loud enough but sounds similar to a cheap boom box.

The ten watt speakers are great for inside, but outside I bought a seperate blue ray disc player with its own speaker, front, rear, center, and subwoofer. All the speakers have all the wires attached, and are color coded with different size plugs. It sounds great, moderate sound volume, etc. I do wish I bought one with more wattage. I play a lot of DVD concerts, where I would like to really crank it up. The HDMI cable input is great, I bought a fifty foot cable and can watch any TV program outside. I hope I was helpful.

I think you can add a speaker system, but the speakers are pretty good. We have only ever used the built in speakers for our backyard parties of 30-50 little kids and adults. My friend always borrows it and I think she has just only used the speakers too-just mentioning cuz she has a significantly bigger yard than me. We love this machine! Hope that helps.

The inlets are 1) component RCA (Y, Pb, Pr), 2) Composite Video, RCA, 3) HDMI 4) VGA, 5) USB, and 6) Analog Audio. So if the cable box needs to have either one of these outlets. An adapter may be required.

Yes, if it has a tuner. We've hooked ours up to our cable box, an antenna when camping, iPhone, iPad, and laptop. Each component requires different hardware which can be purchased at your local electronic store.
We absolutely love ours and I know you will also.

I don't know but I would assume you can. We have connected an iPad to it and it worked beautifully! It has the same audio and video jacks as our tv.

              Hi Q,
I have connected my MovieMate 85HD for extra speakers in 2 ways. I have one connection to my Blu-ray home theater and another connection to my Yahama AVR with 7.1 speakers to get my movie theater sound. I hope this helps.

I see from the specifications that this unit is compatible with an IPod! Does that also include the IPad?What distance does the projector need to be from a 12' screen for optimal clarity? And is it possible to hook up additional speakers or a jambox through bluetooth?

            Thanks

this is a great unit. gigo holds true to any unit, good copy in good video out. you can not clear up garbage. good video can be clarified and focuses. if it has rca input movie will show the output. minimun is 6 ft. speakers can be hookup with purchase of modified components parts.

The Epson MovieMate 85HD is compatible with Apple iPod, Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. However, this unit offers a VGA and HDMI input. If your generation Ipad has either of these outputs, this unit should work the same as any Mac or PC.
