Home Theater Customer Showroom

"I think my home theatre is a perfect example of how someone, with the right advice and time, can put together a really nice system without busting the budget.
The salespeople suggested I use the Sanyo PLV-Z2 in my theatre because it would be located in a newly finished basement where I can completely control the lighting. I was skeptical about the low price, but I was assured that there would be no problem returning it should I be dissatisfied. I am SO glad I took their advice. The picture is bright and clear even when add ambient lighting to the room, so I would imagine it would work well even in a room with windows and blinds.
For the screen, though, I could not be talked into paying for a piece of plastic. I'm not particulary a theatre 'enthusiast', so I didnt see what the big deal was. Rather than sell me something I did not really want, the guys at Projector People suggested I try it on a white wall and see if I liked it. Again, I'm glad I took their advice. I had my contractor mount and extra piece of 1/4" dry wall horizontally and frame it out with wood trim. I added a coat of Benjamin Moore washable flat white paint, and there you have it -- a beautiful 8ft wide screen for about $60.
I also was very conservative when it came to the audio. I used the Sony STR-DE697 Dolby 7.1 receiver with the Bose VCS-10 center speaker, 301's for the left/right speakers, invisible 191's for the rear, 161's for the middle, and a Sony SAW250 powered subwoofer. It sounds like I'm in a THX theatre, and I cannot tell you how many times I have been fooled thinking that rain in a movie was really hitting my roof.
So, back to what I said about budget...I am thrilled with my setup, and it wound up setting me back only about $3,000."
