Home Theater Customer Showroom

"I was first interested in creating a family room in the basement so we wouldn't wake the kids up when watching movies. I had my sights on a 65-inch widescreen. Then, after going to a few model home shows and doing a little research, I discovered that I had budgeted too much for a TV and had my sights too low. With a little help from the Projector People and their website it was relatively simple to design and build a fully dedicated home theater on a family room budget.
I purchased a Panasonic PT500U at a price far less than the discount stores offered and designed the room around it. The home theater room is only 14 x 18 (26 including the game area), yet large enough for an 84 x 47-inch screen. The picture detail at 13-feet is outstanding. It is on par with out 46-inch Mitsubishi rear projection and I see no "screen door" effects. I am using the Comprehensive cable, which once again impressed me (Note: if you use this cable you may want to use a conduit larger than 2-inch -- it's like a garden hose and nearly did not fit!). Due to a tight budget I made my own projector mount and screen using fabric from a local fabric store. It required a bit of research, but this allowed me to get a better projector now and room for upgrades in the future. As good as the image is on a simple $15 screen I can't image how good will look when the screen is upgraded.
Now that it is done, I could not be happier with the results. Concrete to popcorn in only 3 1/2 months and I did it all myself. We can now put in a movie, turn up the volume as it's meant to be heard without having to keep turning the volume up and down for fear of waking the neighborhood. We're looking forward to years of Friday night family movie nights. And speaking of kids, you should see what a Nemo does to them on an 8-foot screen - they can't move!
Thanks for all your help Projector People."
