Ray Roberts - Canton, Ohio
Media Center Administrator
Goal: To help others tell the old story in new ways.
Ray Roberts is not afraid of technology. She is also not someone you'd expect to see providing technical support and encouraging others to utilize the latest tech gear, but that is exactly what she does.
Ray is a Media Center Specialist for the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. Her media center services the greater Ohio area providing LCD video projectors, CD-ROMs, video curriculum from cartoons, lesson plans for kids and adults, music CDs and more.
For a small fee (from $50-$120 a year) any Eastern Ohio church can join the cooperative and receive free rentals of all the media center resources, including LCD projectors, for the entire year. Ray says:
Using projectors allows us to tell the old story in new ways.
She even leads workshops about the benefits of using new technologies like projectors in church environments. The class is aptly named Don't Be Afraid of Technology, where she asserts:
If I can do it, you can do it.
Ray says that many churches don't know about the kinds of ways projectors can enhance the learning experience, with both younger and older audiences.
Projectors in churches are not traditional, but they are catching on.
She mentions that many churches now use projectors in Sunday worship services to display lyrics to hymns or relevant scripture passages. Some churches even use projectors in combination with a video camera to provide large screen coverage of a baptism, or a live video feed of interviews with attendees at Sunday service.
We applaud Ray for the great service she provides her members, and her commitment to tell her story in new and exciting ways.
Welcome to Projector People.
