Upgraded from the 5030UB. As all the other reviews have already stated, this IS a significant upgrade. The 4K emulation, whatever magic it is doing, make the image look 10x sharper. Colors are amazing. This is the first auto iris I haven't immediately turned off, cause its 95% non visible to me. I fooled around with some custom settings... out of the bag the projector comes set up at sort of a mid level sharpening, denoising. Normally, I turn all this stuff off... but I like it on this projector. I can see the defects in peoples skin on TV shows!

The one thing I found, by leaving all the stock settings on, is that panel alignment is near impossible. Some sharp text may get a greenish outline or the like. But since text is not what I am after, again, I chose to keep the sharpening settings on and enjoy a crisper picture.

This time, I opted for the UBE upgrade. I don't really care (yet) about plugging in 4K HMDI stuff. But I was tired of running 30 ft of cable and hiding it somewhere. Since I just moved to a new house, the wireless HDMI option has let me skip the long cable. And it's worked flawlessly so far. Mind you everything is in the same room with direct line of sight.

Projector people were fast and I didn't pay tax and got a free mount out of the deal!

The first brand new Epson 5040 ube I purchased failed without warning in 2.5 months/150 hours, completely dead with no power. The replacement unit that Epson sent to me under warranty, a unit that they claimed was "new," similarly failed, but this time only after less than a week/a few hours. Apparently, in my conversation with their technicians, this is a known power supply issue which, in my opinion, Epson unsatisfactorily now addresses by sending out REFURBISHED units with "modified boards" containing a "new chipset." I think it's safe to assume these are repaired units that had failed on someone else. Epson repeatedly declined my requests to have my unit, less than 3 months old, replaced with a new, rather than refurbished, unit with the new chipset.

As such, go with this brand/model if you don't mind the risk of failure and having it exchanged by Epson for a refurbished unit, that is if you're "lucky" enough for the product to fail during the warranty period. If you're hoping for a projector to last you more than 2 years and believe reliability is of value, then I would suggest considering other brands with comparable or even better features, some of which in my research came in at lower price points.

Comments about Epson Home Cinema 5040UBE 4K Enhancement:

Great projector that's sharp, has great black levels, and good illumination. The only thing to be aware of is when using the wireless feature, the transmitter has to get a pretty good line to sight to the projector or you won't be able to get a picture or higher resolutions.

This is one sweet projector, the clarity of the image is excellent and the colors pop. There is a delay in getting an image while the wireless sync's but it's only for seconds.

Absolutely stunning

Comments about Epson Home Cinema 5040UBE 4K Enhancement:

Finally pulled the trigger... What a great decision. I can say in all honesty this is a exceptional value. I have a dedicated theater room with all the bells and whistles. I was looking to upgrade from a older unit and spent literally countless hours outing over reviews and watching YouTube videos of differing models... When the purchase price gets above a threshold the hesitation on purchasing really kicks in....We all have that particular amount. I was wanting the best absolute bang for my dollar and was also looking for the ultimate in performance. The unit completely satisfied my wishes. I was unlucky enough to demo a true Sony 4k unit side by side against another strong 1080p unit from a local merchant and this truly created a hellish nightmare as I saw but how amazing the difference was between the two in terms of clarity and resolution. After seeing such beauty from the 4k how could I purchase a lesser machine and be fully happy and yes I am totally aware of the sticker shock on the Sony 4k model. So begin my dilemma. I fell into the bracket of "cavier taste on a value meal budget.". I am delighted to see all the reviews about the Epson as well the videos on the youtube but in the end you are left with only technical data to sort which is hard to decipher in real world viewing and the videos never actually show you how it would look in "your scenario" giving the conditions that it's always different and lastly the video review image is a recording so tht in itself has a plethora of things that will muddy the review. Suffice to say the Epson has delivered on all my wants. It is everybit as wonderful to look at as the Sony 10k unit. I am in no way wishing I should have purchase something else. My review here is not trying to talk about specs or any other feature. I wanted to maybe help someone if they were possibly in my same situation of wanting/desiring a top performer but was sceptical due the extreme differences in cost from a true 4k

Excellent upgrade to prior Epson projectors

Comments about Epson Home Cinema 5040UBE 4K Enhancement:

Upgrading an Epson 8500, this immediately delights with higher contrast and brightness. Colors pop. Wireless HDMI works, useful if wiring is a challenge. Installation and setup (ceiling mount) was easy as I used the prior mount (Epson branded, still fits the new screw holes). The new electronic alignment and focus is easier than the prior manual dials.
